The figures for the amount of electricity generated from renewable sources are as impressive as the ambitious targets. According to estimates from the International Energy Agency (IEA), global electricity production from renewable sources will have increased by more than 60% by 2026 compared with 2020, to more than 4,800 GW. The goal is for renewables to make up almost 95% of the world’s growth in electricity generation capacities by 2026. More than half of this amount will come from photovoltaics (PV).

DEKRA Shanghai BaoShan Renewable Energy Testing Center

According to the IEA, PV was already the growth engine in renewable electricity production in 2021. The increase amounted to 17%, delivering a record of 160 GW. China not only leads the way in expanding capacities, but is also the leading PV producer worldwide. DEKRA is therefore continuing to expand its capacities in China for inspecting and certifying PV products, both individual components and entire modules. In 2021, the inspection and testing centers in Guangzhou, Wenzhou, and Shanghai were expanded.

However, DEKRA’s commitment goes even further. In March 2022, DEKRA opened another state-of-the-art laboratory in Shanghai in order to meet growing demand. The Shanghai Renewable Energy Testing Center has strengthened DEKRA’s position in China as a leading inspection and certification partner to the PV industry. Eight of the ten major producers are DEKRA customers.
